I'm a Mac user who is also a frequent TeamViewer user. The first thing I would do is make sure that both machines are running the same version of TeamViewer. I believe the current version is 8. If the remote machine is running version 8 and the local machine is running a version lower than 8, they won't connect.

Are you using the personal license or the corporate license? If you are on a corporate license, you have a limited number of channels, so if you are exceeding the number of simultaneous sessions, you might not be able to connect.
You are 100% sure that both your local network and the remote network are fully functional. Obviously if there's a network problem, TeamViewer is not going to work. Verify that both of the machines that you are trying to connect are able to connect and receive connections.
Another crazy thought is to uninstall and reinstall TeamViewer. If you do this, it's a good opportunity to make sure that you are both using the same version. It's not mission-critical, but it does make things easier.
